Have you ever imagined being on stage performing in a theatrical setting complete with
singing and dancing in gleaming costumes and stage makeup with professional lighting and props, etc....?
Would you like to sing with a regional medallist chorus and attend annual regional conventions?
You can realize that role by becoming a chorus performer. Make this
dream come true; come and join the Columbia River Chorus of Sweet Adelines
International. As part of our chorus, you will become a top-notch
performer while learning proper vocal techniques. You don't have to read
music to join. You will learn simple choreography routines and perform for
various organizations in our community, as well as participate in our annual
show, coaching sessions, regional competition and annual retreat. The best
part of the experience will be the supportive friends that you will meet and
the fun that you will have.
How YOU can be a part of Columbia River Chorus:
Our rehearsals are on most Monday nights (except for holidays), from 7PM to
almost 10PM. (Singing stops at 9:30PM, but there are announcements and
wrap-up after that.) You are welcome to visit our rehearsals at any time!
They are at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1220 NE 68th St.,
Vancouver, WA. This is just off of the I-5.
When you first come in, someone from our membership committee notices and
greets you. She finds out a bit about you and shares some information with
you. You are introduced to our director, Darwin Scheel, who spends a few
moments with you to determine what voice part to start you out in. You are
given a guest book of the songs in our repertoire and welcomed up on the
risers from the get-go! Generally, you are placed next to a "buddy" (often
the section leader) to be with you and help explain things if needed.
Being a member of Sweet Adelines provides the following:
* An opportunity for keeping and improving your musical skills
* An opportunity for learning a lot, even for those who already have musical
training and/or degrees
* A group of friendly, fun-loving women to give you support and
companionship
* A competitive outlet for achievers who like tangible goals and winning
* A way to develop self-confidence and thus enrich your daily life
experience
* A way to develop and/or keep your strength and health - singing is very
good for you, as well as deep, sustained breathing. We're talking energizing
chemical responses in your body, where you leave rehearsal feeling BETTER
than when you walked in!
* A way to sharpen your mind and memory, and keep it sharp (especially for
those of us who aren't spring chickens anymore!)
Come visit us on almost any Monday night at 7:00 p.m! Please check
calendar page for any variances from the normal schedule, such as holidays off.
